Angie Bell: From Children's Author to Mayor of Cap-Haïtien – A Story of Community, Culture, and Connection

Angie Bell’s Story: A Journey of Purpose and Community

Back in 2019, I had the privilege of interviewing Angie. During our conversation, she shared how her life had come full circle. What began as a return trip to Haiti to support her parents’ school soon became a deeper calling to serve and create lasting impact.

As the author of The Adventures of Yaya, Angie had already dedicated herself to inspiring young minds through storytelling. Over the years, she expanded her work as a cultural consultant and marketing specialist, always centering community building and cultural pride — whether in the U.S. or in Haiti.

Her decision to settle in Cap-Haïtien, Haiti’s second-largest city, reflects her deep love for her roots and her vision for sustainable change in the place she calls home.

A Special Photoshoot with NOUKA Jewelry

Fast forward to a day that still makes me smile: Angie and her youngest sister, Louca, joined us in the NOUKA studio for a photoshoot featuring our newest collection, Perles des Idylles.

The Perles des Idylles Collection was designed to embody timeless elegance and the beauty of intentional living, with each piece thoughtfully crafted using ethically sourced materials. Seeing Angie and Louca bring these designs to life reminded me of the strength and grace of the Haitian diaspora, and the supportive spirit that flows through our community.

Before they left, Angie and Louca selected a few of their favorite NOUKA pieces:

  • Our SODO Earrings — sleek, minimalist hoops that are waterproof and tarnish-free, perfect for everyday wear and special occasions alike.

  • Our Flamme Necklace — a striking statement piece that symbolizes inner fire and passion.

  • Our Anastasia Ring — a classic, heirloom-worthy design made to be passed down through generations.

These designs were created to withstand daily wear without losing their shine, making them perfect companions for women on the move, whether leading a city council meeting or celebrating life’s milestones.

From the Studio to the Mayor’s Office

Recently, Angie was sworn in as the Mayor of Cap-Haïtien, wearing her NOUKA pieces from that very photoshoot.

For us, this was a powerful full-circle moment — a reminder that our work is about so much more than creating beautiful jewelry. Each piece becomes part of a personal story, carrying memories and meaning as its wearer continues their journey.

Seeing Angie step into a leadership role while wearing jewelry designed with sustainability and heritage in mind filled us with pride and gratitude.
